The chat couldn't load
Your internet provider or country seems to block the video chat service. It's not your camera and not your phone — the chat just can't reach you on this connection.
How to fix it
- 1Turn on a VPN (any VPN app works), then tap Try again.
- 2Or switch network: mobile data instead of Wi-Fi, or the other way round.
- 3Still nothing? Open the page in Chrome or Safari, not inside another app.

Why switch
Why people look for a Monkey alternative
Monkey is a random video and text chat app on Android, with group “Squad” chats and swipeable cards. Its website says it is strictly for adults 18 and over.
You need an account before you can chat: Monkey’s site explains that it uses a one-tap social login. Its privacy policy mentions registering with Instagram and collecting a phone number, and says it may use a third party with a selfie to verify age.
There is no iPhone app. Monkey’s own site tells iOS and desktop users to use its web version, and we found no Monkey app on the US App Store when we checked. On Android it has in-app purchases of $0.99 to $40.99 per item, but its own pages don’t say what they unlock.

How to choose a Monkey app alternative
If the account was the problem, pick a service that lets you start without one. This site, Joingy and CamSurf all let you start chatting without registering first. Emerald Chat and Monkey both ask you to sign up.
If you want a native app on iPhone, Azar is the only one on this list with a US App Store app. Everything else on this list runs in Safari, which on an iPhone is often the quicker way to start anyway.
If you liked Monkey’s mix of video and text, look at Emerald Chat (one‑on‑one text, video and group rooms) and Joingy (text or video). If you just want to talk face to face with one person at a time, the one‑on‑one video chat on this site starts with a single tap.
Staying safe on any random video chat
Keep personal details private: no address, school or workplace, passwords or payment details. Leave any chat that makes you uncomfortable and use the report tools, which every service here describes.
Most of the services compared here say they are for adults 18 and over (see the table). If someone appears to be under 18, end the chat and report it.
How we compared, and our interest
Every fact about another service comes from that service’s own public website, terms, help pages or app store listing, checked on the date shown on its card; each card links its sources. We did not install the apps or create accounts, so the comparison covers what each service publishes, not how it behaves day to day. Features, prices and age rules change, so check the service itself before you sign up.
Our interest, plainly: this site embeds CooMeet’s video chat as a CooMeet partner and earns a share of the revenue when people who start here register or pay, so it is listed first. The other services are listed because people searching for Monkey alternatives ask about them; we have no relationship with any of them. Service names belong to their owners.
